I watched this episode yesterday and was wondering if I heard right when Clegg turned up at the ranch and asked Adam to check something out, saying casually 'It's only three hours ride away."

As I had only the previous day gone to another one of our islands which entailed three boat trips to various other islands which added up to three hours I got to thinking that is a long time in the saddle just to check out some cows...so I asked a friend to check out in case I had misheard and he had actually said 'three miles distance'

Her reply was interesting ... and here it is ...

"Got curious with what you wrote about the episode so went to YouTube to have a look. Yep he says 3 hours. Long ride indeed but what really makes it off, and something the writers didn’t really think through - the ride to the herd was 3 hours. they spent say 10 minutes or so talking, then were going to get the herd back to the Ponderosa.

" Even if they didn’t go right back to a pasture by the house, say it was a 2 hour ride to have then settled where Adam would want them on their land, just getting that many cattle there with just 2 men would take more then the 3 hours it took Adam and Clegg to ride from the house in the first place. So let's say we now have had a minimum 6 hour round trip ( and that is going an hour from the main house.- so 7 if not more if they went right to a pasture by the house.

"THEN they take what would be on the best of days, a 2 hour ride to VC for a drink!! ?

" Then Adam has a 2 hour ride back home- so he has now been away from the house for 10 hours, not counting time in town. Clegg says that it is about noon when they are at the herd – so by the time they get it back , it has to be what about 3-4 pm – 2 hours to town and then back for Adam - AND Clegg says, before about noon, he should be getting back to town and then he says to Adam why don’t I help you get this herd back to your spread before we go back to town. Well Adam was not in town to begin with and what reason would he have to go there and buy this guy a drink?

"If they were back on Ponderosa land and any where near close to the house it would have been faster and more logical for Adam to ask him in for a drink at the house. THAT is unless Adam was going to town to begin with. When he comes out of the house and heading for Sport we have no idea where he is headed, could have been anywhere, yes town but anywhere on the ranch or a neighbours.

If this was a fan fiction story I would be questioning the writer on all this."

:cool If writers back then had only known the scrutiny their work would be put under all these years later!! However, she is right, fan fiction writers would be much more careful ...wouldn't they?
